"In order to achieve environmental justice, recognition should be given to Indigenous women who have a vital role in our local communities as preservers of biodiversity through their sustainable uses of resources, extensive knowledge of uses of plants, marine life as medicine, food and building materials. Thus, processes, programmes, projects and decision-making should be implemented in ways that are inclusive of women and girls by addressing all the various gender issues." — Aydah Akao, Network of Indigenous Peoples in Solomon Islands (NIPS)
