Imagining Feminist Futures After COVID-19: An interactive virtual workshop

The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the flaws in our organising systems: the patriarchal, capitalist, racist underpinnings of everyday life as well as the staggering inequalities within and between countries. This massive disruption to economic and ideological systems presents a critical juncture – a site of potential, radical transformation. This interactive workshop explored the gendered implications of macroeconomic trends (decreasing funding for feminist activism, post-COVID economics, the gendered burden of economic stress, and the shift towards sharing economies) over the next 10 years to 2030 to support collective efforts to create a more feminist future.
This workshop used an adapted version of the methodology designed for Imagining Feminist Futures After COVID-19, a project coordinated by IWDA with a Steering Group including Fiji Women’s Rights Movement, IT for Change, Gender at Work and Oxfam International. Participants focused on macroeconomic trends which are being impacted by COVID-19, such as decreases in funding available for feminist activism, post-COVID economics, the gendered burden of economic stress, and the shift towards sharing and peer economies. The workshop guided participants through a process to explore the gendered implications of these trends and how they may play out over the next 10 years in both positive and negative ways, to support our individual and collective efforts to create a more feminist future.
In the session, all participants went home with a facilitator’s guide and workshop materials to recreate the workshop with their own organisation/network.
