Creative Corner: Care & Wellness Session – Spiritual Healing
Reshaping conventional notions of activism through the kaleidoscope of art, our Creative Corners host a diverse range of artists, creatives and activists from the Global South. Embark with us on a journey of films, songs, live performances and art in all its vibrant manifestations as a contemporary tool of feminist activism.
Su Hsin is from the Papora Indigenous Development Association. She is a mother to two babies, a traditional healer, & a doctor candidate for civil engineering. Papora People are from the West side of Taiwan. Before the 17th century, Papora had built a strong DaTu Chiefdom, but was destroyed by Dutch and Chinese Han people during the Age of Discovery. There are over 27 different indigenous ethnic groups in Taiwan, some groups are recognized as indigenous by law, but Papora is not recognized by the government yet. They are still fighting for their rights, lands, rivers, forests, culture, and livelihoods. The song she performed in this session is for a spiritual ritual meant to bring out the strength of her people when they are facing desperation.
In this session, Su Hsin guided the participants through a healing session to explore and experience different wellness & care practices to support their well-being. This session also documented care & wellness practices & their importance among the women workers & their networks in strengthening our collective understanding of intersectional strangeness with resilience.
