Speaker:
Sehnaz Kiymaz
In this session, we provided an introduction to IWRAW Asia Pacific’s Gender Equality and Macroeconomics Toolkit. This session was intended to help participants critically think about the effects of national macroeconomic policies on women & girls’ access, exercise and enjoyment of human rights and to create space for exchanging ideas on gender-responsive COVID-19 macroeconomic policies.
After a brief introduction to the toolkit & the topics of “Gender Equality and Macroeconomics”, we started our exercise by looking at two hypothetical countries with a set of COVID-19 macroeconomic measures with varying degrees of gender responsiveness. Relying on the resources gathered at Feminist COVID Response to Covid-19, the exercises considered the impact of real life, already implemented policies and used a Miro board to work with participants to come to a ‘purple standard’ of what a gender-responsive, feminist macroeconomic policy set against the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic should look like.
The session came with Arabic interpretation.
