  • Make visible the broad spectrum of women’s work and the gross human rights violations and power imbalances experienced by women engaged in paid and unpaid work.
  • Affirm the human and labour rights of women workers in the formal and informal economies to assert their rights to decent and dignified work free from violence and discrimination.
  • Hold duty bearers and perpetrators of violations accountable for non-compliance with international human rights and labour rights standards and commitments; and identify the gaps in national laws, policies and institutional structures.
  • An alternative space is created by and for Global South women to advocate for justice in the world of work, build solidarity, amplify collective demands across the regions and the sectors, and strengthen advocacy at the national level.
  • Documentation of the violations of international human rights and labour rights standards by duty bearers, both State and non-state actors, and employers across different regions and sectors.
  • Formulation of specific recommendations addressed to duty bearers including States, employers, relevant international women’s human rights and labour rights bodies (e.g., CEDAW, ILO etc) on the changes that need to be affected at both international and national levels to protect and fulfil the rights of women in the world of work.

The Global Tribunal will be presided over by five thematic Jury Working Groups. The Jury Working Groups aim to replace the hierarchical nature of traditional tribunals, whereby a select few judges are authorised as having the expertise and knowledge to form recommendations.

The Global Tribunal of Women Workers seeks to break these barriers and recognise women workers as keepers and producers of knowledge, analysis and recommendations. Each Jury Working Group is comprised of:

The Jury Working Groups will analyse the testimonies presented during the Global Tribunal and identify the rights violations against women workers to ultimately formulate context-specific, nuanced and clear recommendations to duty bearers.
